Services

We offer knowledgeable, non-medical support to clients and their families facing a life limiting and/or end of life healthcare journey such as chronic / progressive / debilitating illnesses and dementia. Whatever your needs may be our volunteers will work to provide caring support you can trust. We understand that not one approach fits all. Know we’re here to hold a hand, listen to a lifetime of stories, talk about fears and concerns, touch a heart and perhaps change a life. Our volunteers will take the time to get to know you and your family and hopefully make a difference. Companionship is key to a trusted relationship. We not only strive to help comfort you but want to develop a caring relationship with you. We provide one-on-one attention and care by trained volunteers wanting to touch a life in a meaningful way.

Hospice services are free of charge to people and families who are facing a life limiting illness, including chronic / progressive / debilitating illnesses, dementia, and end-of-life.

Ask your physician, Hospital staff or Extra Mural Staff for a Hospice referral or call Hospice Sussex directly at (506) 432-5001. We are here to help when you need it most.

Hospice offers a team approach that strives to include physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dietitians, spiritual caregivers, volunteers, and others as needed. Hospice palliative care focuses on helping people live as fully and comfortably as possible through to the end of life, while also providing compassionate support to families during illness and through bereavement.

Practical Services
At Hospice, we understand how difficult and frightening a life limiting healthcare journey, passing of a loved one and grieving can be. We’re here to help by offering practical services such as helping arrange drives for appointments, for groceries or enjoyment, helping arrange home healthcare equipment – such as walkers, wheel chairs and hospital beds.

Grief Support
When someone you love passes, you grieve, you hurt, you experience, you need.  After the death of your loved one, a trained Hospice volunteer will call you once per month for 13 months to see how you are and offer support. We offer information on what to do next and grief support counselling.

Our experienced and trained volunteers provide meaningful comfort and care to both clients and their families. We offer brief respite care, companionship and a listening ear. Our goal is to help individuals and their loved ones during a difficult time by making each day as comfortable as possible.

Hospital or Home Visiting
Our dedicated volunteers are here to bring comfort, companionship, and support wherever you are. Whether at home, in the hospital, or in a nursing home, they offer a caring presence – listening, sharing time, and providing encouragement during life’s most tender moments.

Lending Library
We offer a collection of books and videos covering chronic and life-limiting illnesses, end-of-life care, and grief. These resources are available to provide comfort, guidance, and understanding for patients, families, and caregivers as they navigate difficult journeys.

Leadership and Advocacy
We believe no one should face the challenges of end-of-life care alone. Our team focuses on helping individuals and families navigate the healthcare system with confidence and compassion. We work alongside you to ensure access to quality hospice and palliative care services, connecting you with the resources, support, and dignity you deserve.
